Dream catchers are a beautifully symbolic piece for Native Americans
They were created to capture all the goodness and beauty within our dreams and to filter and trap any negative or bad parts of them.
Traditionally they are hung in your bedroom where you sleep. They put your mind at ease and help you feel secure and protected. I personally see no problem with placing them in doorways of your home also, as I believe they filter negativity from entering.
Dream Catchers traditionally feature Willow hoop often using red willow, representing the circle of life and its also regarded a talisman of protection. Next, webbing and feathers were used along with natural animal products. Unfortunately, we can’t use these as they restrict the importing of such materials! So we compromise with these bohemian designs, which look just as pretty!
The webbing inside the hoop represents spider webs which are very sacred creations and show our connection with the Nature World and Mother Earth. Most tribes will never kill a spider as it is believed to be a bad omen. They are beautiful creatures!
Feathers represent higher messengers from the Spirit World. They carry our prayers, thoughts and love to the next World to our Ancestors and loved ones.
I hope these creations bring peace to your sacred space and mind each sleep time.
